There was a big problem with electricity in Spain and Portugal. The power stopped in many places and also affected some parts of France. The blackout stopped trains and grounded planes, traffic lights didn’t work, and there were many traffic jams. Many cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon, were badly affected. Shops closed, and people couldn’t use phones or pay by card. The Spanish government said people should only use phones when really needed. No one knows for sure what caused the problem. Some people think it is due to a failure in the complex electricity network, others blame extreme weather conditions. The Portuguese government said the weather was the reason. Some places now have power again, but many still don’t. It may take some days to fix everything. This event shows how important and weak the modern electricity system can be.
